FIBRR: An Artistic Space for Research on CD
The Fibrr label is not a traditional label in the conventional sense. Instead, Fibrr extends an artistic research approach onto CD format. The artists from APO33 pursue a cross-disciplinary approach, blending performance and installation with improvisation and composition through collaborative projects with other artists. Their exploration of the relationship between the unique, context-dependent nature of live performance or installation, and the fixed nature of recorded media, which homogenizes and standardizes the form and context of the artwork, has led them to adopt a more radical approach to producing CDs.
From this perspective, CD production is no longer seen as merely capturing a performance or installation. Each recording undergoes a reworking of the sound material, taking into account the differences in presentation mode between live and recorded formats. The CD medium implies a different kind of listening experience and engagement from the listener compared to live performance. The sound or music on CD is essentially the same as the live piece but adapted and reimagined for the CD format. In both cases, it is the same project realized in two distinct forms. Fibrr is organized around the diverse research directions of APO33 artists within their collective projects.
FIBRR: An Artistic Space for Research on the Internet
Since beginning to collaborate with APO33 on web radio creation, we decided to develop a virtual extension of the label with a distinct vision: to avoid simply replicating the CD aspect on the internet. Two major elements emerged from this exploration of the digital medium. First, duration: unlike CDs, the internet allows for pieces of indefinite length, enabling music to extend over several hours if needed. Second, the live aspect: with APO33, we launched a new series called AUDIO_DISTORTION, where artists can work together over two months online to create a unique sound form—a live/installation piece via web radio. Now, we aim to connect this new form of musical and sound presentation, bridging APO33 and FIBRR within this platform.
