La Bretagne a fait du bruit au dernier Festival International de Louisiane. La participation du Bagad Plougastell n’est pas passée inaperçue au plus grand festival international de musique et d'arts des États-Unis. 37 musiciens de Plougastell ont traversé l’Atlantique pour être ambassadeurs de la Bretagne durant une semaine de concerts, défilés, et partage de culture.
Brittany made some noise at the last Festival International de Louisiane and the presence of the Bagad Plougastell at the biggest US music and arts international festival did not go unnoticed. 37 musicians from the small town of Plougastell crossed the Atlantic and became Breton ambassadors for an entire week of concerts, parades and cultural exchanges.
Le lien entre la Bretagne et la Louisiane n’est pas nouveau. L’association Breizh Amerika œuvre depuis 4 ans pour créer des liens de coopération et de compréhension entre les deux régions, et l’invitation du bagad au Festival International en est encore un très bel exemple. Le Bagad Plougastell s’est démené pour trouver des partenaires pour financer son voyage et a même réussi une belle campagne de crowdfunding.
The strong bond between Brittany and Louisiana is not a new one. For the past 4 years the Breizh Amerika foundation has been creating cooperative ties and mutual appreciation between both regions and an excellent example of this link was the Bagad’s invitation to the Festival International. The Bagad Plougastell was therefore determined to find partners to help fund the trip and even managed to organise a successful crowdfunding campaign.
Une fois arrivé au pays des cajuns, le bagad n’a pas tardé à se faire remarquer par les 300 000 festivaliers; de nombreux défilés de jour comme de nuit, des concerts sur la scène TV5 Monde, une animation à la brasserie Bayou Teche, deux apparitions à la télévision locale et une collaboration unique avec deux artistes cajuns, ont fait du bagad l’un des acteurs les plus en vue du festival cette année. Tous les membres du bagad ont même été nommés citoyens d’honneur de la ville de Lafayette par la mairie de la ville.
Immediately after arriving in Cajun country, it did not take long for the Bagad to be noticed by the 300,000 festival goers. The parades, both daytime and night-time, concerts, including on the TV5 Monde stage, musical entertainment at the Bayou Teche Brasserie, two appearances on the local television station and a unique collaboration with two Cajun artists all contributed to making the Bagad one of the most watched performers of this year. All members of the Bagad were also proclaimed honorary citizens of the town of Lafayette by the city council.
Echanges entre cultures Cajun et Bretonnes
Le Festival International de Lafayette est connu pour mettre un accent particulier sur le lien entre l'Acadiana et le monde francophone. Un échange musical entre les musiciens du bagad et cajuns était une priorité avant le voyage. Mission accomplie grâce à une collaboration unique avec deux musiciens cajuns : Trey Boudreaux (membre du Breizh Amerika Collective 2017) et Jourdan Thibodeaux.
The Festival International de Lafayette is recognised for emphasising the relations between Acadian culture and the francophone world. A music exchange between members of the Bagad and Cajun musicians was therefore a priority of ours before arriving at the Festival. This Mission was accomplished thanks to a unique collaboration with two Cajun musicians, Trey Boudreau (member of the 2017 Breizh Amerika Collective) and Jourdan Thibodeaux.
Un pari réussi pour le bagad qui joue en première catégorie en Bretagne et a laissé beaucoup d'étoiles dans les yeux de nombreux locaux en Louisiane.
Les ponts de Breizh Amerika entre les USA et la Bretagne ne cessent de grandir !
This project was a great success for the Bagad which plays in the first category in Brittany and wowed many locals in Louisiana. The bridges that had been established by the Breizh Amerika foundation between the USA and Brittany were being expanded !
Et Maintenant? And now?
Beaucoup de personnes nous ont contactés à l'issue du crowdfunding en nous faisant part de leur souhait de nous soutenir financièrement sur ce projet.
Durant le festival, l'auto-financement du voyage a également surpris un grand nombre. Les échanges et succès rencontrés lors de nos différentes prestations ont permis d'identifier que des festivaliers, bénévoles... souhaitaient également nous soutenir.
C'est pourquoi nous ré-ouvrons le crowndfunding qui permettra à tout le monde de contribuer si il le souhaite. Les fonds serviront à équilibrer le budget du projet Louisiane ainsi qu'à financer d'éventuels futurs projets ; les contacts ont été pris durant 1 semaine !!!
Many people approached us regarding our crowdfunding campaign and their desire to also contribute financially to our project.
Indeed, during the festival, the fact that we self-funded our trip to Lafayette surprised many people. Our encounters and the successes of our performances showed us that many festival goers and volunteers also wished to support us.
That is why we will be re-opening our crowdfunding project to allow anyone who desires to contribute to do so. The funds will allow us to balance the budget of our trip to Louisiana and possibly help us to fund future projects ; Many contacts were made in 1 week !!!
