Notre Marraine, Sarah Ourahmoune

Baroudeurs de l'Espoir, who are we?
Baroudeurs de l’Espoir is an NGO that has been working since 2014 to help the victims of conflicts, especially children, to raise awareness about their living conditions, help them being heard and give them a better future.
Conflict situations are exposing civilians to violence that is so bad that humanitarian organisations can’t stop alerting about the fate of a generation of broken children, exposed to severe trauma.
The Syrian conflict: a human tragedy
· 8 years of war without interruption
· More than 350 000 deaths: 106 400 civilians including 20 000 children
· 8,4 million children affected by the conflict
· 6,1 million people internally displaced
· 5,6 million refugees in the neighbouring countries
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees:
« Inside the country, civilians are suffering of more appalling conditions than ever before, and 69% of them are struggling to survive in the most extreme poverty. About 5.6 million people face vital threats to security, human rights or living conditions, and are in desperate need of emergency humanitarian assistance.”
An entire generation of children is exposed to war and violence, cut from basic necessities, education and protection.
The principle of our association is to:
· Raise funds through sports challenges to meet the needs of our programs on the field.
· Lead awareness-raising activities with our local partners
Created in 2014 by 4 founding members, the NGO is now counting a hundred of volunteers all united around a same commitment:
« Today, I’m no longer a mere spectator, I decide to take action ».
Everyone can become a Baroudeur and give their support, all equals in the effort, standing together.
Our common values:
1€ collected = 1€ refunded on the field: the funds collected are fully transferred to the field. All the members of the association are volunteers and all the costs related to its operation are covered by sponsorship (provision of goods for the benefit of the association), skills sponsorship and contributions from members of the General Assembly.
· A strict political and religious neutrality in the assistance provided.
The AMALIA MONT ROSE event, a major physical challenge for the children’s cause
From June 28 to July 1st of 2019, some fifty Baroudeurs de l’Espoir will attack the summits of the Mont Rose to raise the “Amalia” banner in favour of the children victims of conflicts. This is the fourth consecutive time that this banner of hope will be deployed by a line of men and women, united in the effort and surpassing themselves. Each of our climbers is physically preparing to climb these summits and collect donations.
The Mont Rose, located between Switzerland and Italy, is the second higher massif in the Alps after the Mont-Blanc! In this new challenge, climbers will have to reach 2 summits in 3 days (Punta Gnifetti, 4,554 m, La pyramide Vincent, 4,215 m).
Goals of this new edition
· Raise awareness about the future of a generation of children who are deprived of a back-to-school education due to conflict.
· Continue the reconstruction of educational structures for children
· Ensure the sustainability of our medical emergency actions and the development of food and health aid programmes for refugees and exiles.
The NGO is planning to go beyond the results of the last edition (170,000 € collected in 4 months), by appealing once again to the generosity of the public and by mobilizing companies to form solidarity groups!
Where do your donations go?
The NGO is mobilised to Alep in Syria, in Shahba camp, the outskirts of Aleppo, in the Bekaa refugee camps in Lebanon. It’s also developing actions with exiles and homeless people, in France.
Support for the return to school of children in Aleppo (Syria)
Its program provides 170 children with academic and psychological support, surrounded by a comforting teaching staff.
A food and health assistance to the displaced persons and the maintenance of a social life in Shahba camp (Syria).
675 people displaced are assisted twice a week thanks to the distribution of food, sanitation, clothing, medicines and workshops to enable women and men to maintain a social life.
A mobile library has been operating since 2018 in Shahba camp (Syria)
This educational and psychological assistance program is intended for the children of this camp, which hosts 125 families, including 250 children under 15 years of age.
A mobile and educational unit (school bus) has been operating since 2018 in the Bekaa camps (Lebanon).
In this camp of refugees, the bus has been converted into a mobile and educational unit (MEU) providing 600 children from school lessons and psycho-social support.

Our professional partners on the spot
The choice of our partners is made carefully, due to political and religious neutrality. Our partners are recognized local organisations, competent and impartial, in the assistance provided to civilians.
In 2017, it was with the Lebanese association "Amel" that the NGO decided to get involved in the camps in Lebanon. A non-governmental and non-denominational organization, Amel provides assistance to the civilian population in the medical, psychosocial and child protection. Thanks to the funds collected by the Baroudeurs, Amel has been able to set up an educational bus which to help children in the Bekaa refugee camp.
The Blue Marists of Aleppo
Since 2014, the Baroudeurs have been working alongside this association which regularly provides information in the field and news about the children. In Aleppo since 1986, but also in 80 other countries, this congregation, whose members are lay, Christian and Muslim, is a major actor among the most committed of the local community towards the most fragile civilian populations.
Our godmother, Sarah Ourahmoune
This year, the “Baroudeurs de l’Espoir” have the support of Sarah Ourahmoune, world boxing champion and Olympic vice-champion. Strongly involved in the cause of children, she decided to join the NGO. She is now the godmother of the Amalia event and the ambassador of our NGO.
