For our English-speaking friends:
Who are we?
The Estel France Senegal Association, created since 2018, is dedicated to the financial, human and technical support of the ESTEL Center in Senegal. The association, officially recognized as being of general interest in 2021, is thus entitled to issue tax receipts for all donations made.
The ESTEL Center is a school specialized in the reception and care of mentally disabled people in Dakar. For the past 20 years, ESTEL has been accompanying children and young adults and offering them an educational program adapted to their pathologies, according to an individual project, based on autonomy, socialization and professional training.
Why do we need your help?
Currently, 32 students are enrolled at ESTEL. 17 of them use school transportation to come to ESTEL Center.
ESTEL Center only has a 9-seater bus. The capacity of the bus being limited, the driver makes 2 round trips every morning and afternoon to pick up all the students. In addition, some of the students who are far from the bus route are outsourced. They come and go each day with another vehicle, which is expensive for the school.
The condition of the bus has deteriorated over the years and it is repaired several times a year, which has a financial cost for the Center and disrupts school pick-ups which sometimes have to be done in emergency, resulting in additional expenses.
What will the money collected be used for?
In order to respond to this problem, the ESTEL Center association has approached several car dealerships in order to rent/purchase a bus. We got an answer for a bus with a capacity of 18 seats, with a monthly payment of 1375 euros for 36 months. At the end of this period, the purchase of the bus by the association will be free. In view of all the possibilities explored, this is the best solution to offer a quality, safe and reliable transport service.
The 18-seat bus will make a single trip morning and evening. The 9-seat bus currently in service will serve as a local transport for the youth of the nearby area (Ouakam). This will increase our transportation capacity and will also allow other students living in the suburbs of Dakar to be welcomed and accompanied within the school.
Out of the 49,393.26 euro objective, 18,000 euros have already been acquired thanks to the Lord Michelham of Hellingly Foundation (9,000 euros) and the NGO Village Pilote/UNICEF (9,000 euros). Finally, we hope to collect the missing 16,400 euros from associations via calls for projects within the next 2 years.
Thank you very much for your interest in this campaign and your support!
