Erigé en 1922, l’American Memorial Hospital est le fruit de la coopération franco-américaine et de l’action de trois femmes, le Dr Marie-Louise LEFORT, médecin pédiatre, Mme Edith BANGS, présidente du Comité américain et Mme Jeanne KRUG. Ce bâtiment chargé d’histoire est un lien précieux entre le Comité américain, le CHU et notre territoire.
Set up in 1922 the American Memorial Hospital is the result of French American cooperation and the work of three women Dr Marie Louise LEFORT, pediatrician, Mrs Edith BANGS, president of the American Committee and Mrs Jeanne KRUG This building steeped in history is a precious link between the American Committee, the CHU and our territory.
Un élan de générosité par de multiples donateurs américains
An outpouring of generosity from multiple American donors
Le financement américain de l'hôpital par souscription (près d'1 million de dollars) est assuré par des associations, des firmes et de nombreux donateurs individuels, comme l'architecte américain Charles Butler qui ne percevra pas d'honoraires. Chaque lit est parrainé par la famille d'un soldat américain disparu.
The first stone of the hospital was laid on May 21, 1922 in the presence of the United States ambassador, Myron T. Herrick and the new mayor of Reims, Charles Roche. After 3 years of work, it was inaugurated on April 30, 1925.The American financing of the hospital by subscription (nearly 1 million dollars) is provided by associations, firms and numerous individual donors, such as the American architect Charles Butler who will not receive fees. Each bed is sponsored by the family of a fallen American soldier.

Face au développement des activités pédiatriques au sein de l’établissement hospitalier, ce projet de rénovation poursuit un double objectif : continuer à faire vivre ce bâtiment historique tout en conservant sa mission première d’accueil des jeunes patients et leurs familles.
In response to the development of pediatric activities within the hospital, this renovation project has a dual objective First, bring back this historic building to life Second, maintaining its primary mission in the welcoming of young patients and their families.
Le projet de rénovation a pour vocation de centraliser les activités de la psychiatrie infanto-juvénile et de créer de nouveaux espaces grâce à la rénovation et la réhabilitation des bâtiments.
