PRESENTATION OF THE ORGANISATION AND ITS MEMBERS
NOROUZ was formed in August 2023 for the following purposes:
- Support for the victims of the regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran
- Information on human rights abuses and gender discrimination
- Action to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran's abuses from being forgotten
- Support for the implementation of all transitional justice projects
- Setting up any humanitarian action
- And, more generally, any action to promote respect for human rights in Iran
- safeguarding Iran's cultural and historical heritage
It places the expertise and experience of its members and partners at the disposal of victims and undertakes and encourages any action in favour of mutual aid, solidarity, memorial justice and the truth.
In order to fulfil its corporate purpose, NOROUZ may act directly or indirectly, by any legal means and in particular by organising events, publications, productions and promotional activities.
Following the arrest and death of Ms Mahsa Jina Amini in Iran on 16 September 2022, a spontaneous grassroots movement was launched across the world under the slogan "Woman Life Freedom".
In France, as in other countries, many people from all walks of life - human rights activists, lawyers, businessmen, artists, doctors, students and journalists .... - wanted to take part by lending their support to this popular movement, which has gradually turned into a revolutionary movement in Iran.
The members of NOROUZ, who are particularly sensitive to respect for human rights and gender equality and, more broadly, to universal humanist principles, wanted to come together in a number of informal groups to raise awareness among the general public and the French media of the factual reality in Iran and to give a voice to activists, lawyers, students and, more broadly, the Iranian population whose access to social networks and, more broadly, to the Internet, is severely restricted by the authorities of the Islamic Republic.
Without any political or religious connotations, the members of NOROUZ wish to make the most of their expertise and contacts in order, in particular, to support this historic movement and to participate through their actions in the democratic transition of IRAN with a view to respecting the universal human rights to which the Iranian people aspire.
The Articles of Association are attached hereto and specify both the composition of the membership and the conditions of admission.
It is important to remember that NOROUZ is not affiliated to any political and/or religious movement. It is strictly independent.
It may also join other organisations, unions or groups.
The members of NOROUZ, at the time of its creation, hold the following functions:
- Chairman: Hirbod DEHGHANI-AZAR, Avocat
- Vice-Chairman: Ms Engareh ALIREZAI, Judicial Administrator
- Vice-Chairman: Mr Xavier-Jean KEÏTA, Lawyer, former senior counsel at the international criminal court
- Secretary: Mrs Hilda SCHMIT,
- Deputy Secretary: Mr Richard Sedillot, Lawyer and spokesman for the Association Ensemble Contre la Peine de Mort (Together Against the Death Penalty)
- Treasurer: Mr Ali BOROUMAND, Lawyer
- Deputy Treasurer: Mrs Valeh MAGNIN, Director of Ehpad.
As part of the organisatin's development, a major effort will be made on social networks to disseminate information on the situation in IRAN and the solutions envisaged to achieve the desired democratic transition.
Each member of the organisation can sponsor new members who aspire to the same goals.
The initial avenues of work mentioned by the founding members to achieve these objectives are as follows:
- Gender apartheid or sexual apartheid
- Name and shame" investigation into ill-gotten gains
- Investigation into cybercrime (threats and censorship via social networks)
- Defence of lawyers in Iran
More broadly, we work to advocate the cause of the Iranian people.
