The Network of Women in Aquaculture (NOWA) is a dedicated organization committed to promoting gender equality and sustainability within the aquaculture sector. 

 

Established in June 2023 during a transformative training session in Athens, facilitated by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), NOWA brings together women from diverse backgrounds—students, researchers, and entrepreneurs—all driven by a shared commitment to sustainable and inclusive aquaculture.

 

 

Mission and vision

 

NOWA's mission is to empower women through support, training, and advocacy. 

 

The organization focuses on five key Sustainable Development Goals: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Gender Equality, Climate Action, and Life Below Water. 

 

By fostering a supportive network, NOWA aims to create a more inclusive and diverse aquaculture community that values the contributions of women.

 

 

 

Key initiatives : 

 

  • Empowerment and training: Providing opportunities for skill development, knowledge sharing, and leadership training to women in the aquaculture industry.
  • Advocacy: Promoting gender equality and environmental sustainability in the aquaculture sector through various initiatives and events.
