Project for the benefit of underprivileged children in Benin
The goal of this project is to purchase of a piece of land and building, to give a home to underprivileged kids in partnership with Donatin association, in Bénin.
This project aims to build an orphanage to provide better better living condition to orphants in the village of Tohouè, in Benin. After the project initiation and feasibility study, we are ready to start the realization phase, for which we are requiring your support.
Volodalen association is based in the Jura Mountains in France. We were established in 2001, with the objective of helping the most deprived through education and sport.
- School sponsorship of twenty needy children each year: payment of school fees and meals at school, follow-up and tutoring
- Supply of fifteen computers all eventually connected to the Internet and organization of computing training courses
- Creation and support of the village football club with the annual contribution of training equipment, balls and jerseys
Our budgets come from donations from individuals in direct sponsorship of children and the organization of sportive events in France, which enable us to finance our work: the Trail Volodalen du Jura (1,250 participants in 2019) and the Dark-Trail (450 participants in 2019 for its first edition).
In 2016, we discovered the “Foyer Augustine”, which takes care of girls between four and twenty years old who are either abandoned by their family or orphans. Its goal is to provide these children with a safe home, healthy diet, adequate care, but above all, quality education and professional training to guide them to an independent and responsible adult life.
In 2016, FOYER AUGUSTINE moved into a rented house in the village, but this building is not designed to accommodate fifty children and living conditions are difficult :
- Outdoor showers
- Open kitchen
- Rooms not adapted for the number of children they contain
- Sanitary facilities not suitable to be used by fifty children
- No connection to electricity
Being in a rented building does not allow the association to make the modifications which would be necessary to improve the housing. This also constitutes a financial burden for the Beninese association called Donatin which created it. Since our meeting with Donatin, we learned to know each other and we collaborate more and more to support them in their functioning, which unfortunately remains precarious until now.
In order to give these children a more sustainable living environment and to anticipate the evolution of the number of children for the future, we decided to support the Donatin association in the construction of a new home: we launched architectural studies to have the bases of the project and set our budget.
A dormitory for 60 children on two levels will be built first. Then the kitchen and the refectory will be added.
A garden and a henhouse currently on rented land will finally be moved. These participate in providing food and additional budget to the orphanage. It is also a training tool for the children.
In a second phase, a school and a quality training center for underprivileged children are foreseen.
